My First Mac

I never thought I could be as excited to get and use a new computer as I am today.

My amazing partner Rachel has given me the best present I have ever received — my first ever Mac. I have only been playing with it for a little over two hours, and most of that just exploring, not actually doing anything, and I can safely say that I am certain I will have many enjoyable hours of computing ahead of me.

It is the bottom of the line as far as Macs are concerned — the 13inch Macbook with the 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo, with 2GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive, but it is still blazingly fast and more powerful than I need. It is the most expensive computer I have ever purchased, or had purchased, for me, and this model is the best we could afford.

I am sure that it will last me plenty long enough to definitely get Rachel’s moneys worth out of it. And in reality the biggest hurdle to computing power — to my knowledge at least — is RAM, which is a rather simple upgrade on this machine, thanks to the fact that I have access to the battery. Finally, I am incredibly glad for the matte display, as it handles bright situations like a champion — something I definitely could not say about my old computer.

I am in the process of preparing a list of software essentials that I must have. So far, these include MarsEdit, Notational Velocity, Quicksilver, WriteRoom, and Fluid. I am definitely accepting submissions for other essential software.
