Trying Out Chyrp

I have been trying to find an excuse to bring myself back around to try out the tumblogging platform Chyrp by Alex Suraci for quite some time. I have downloaded, installed, played for five minutes, and then not actually done anything with it.

Finally I found myself a reason to put the effort in — my (soon-to-be-former) boss wants a blog built. He doesn’t need too many features, he just needs to be able to write a post every now and then, maybe post a film, or piece of writing he is working on, and just generally have the software NOT intimidate the hell out of him, and get out of his way.

WordPress definitely isn’t the right platform, and the way Chyrp is set up, where I can activate the features he needs, remove the features he doesn’t, and customise the admin panel with ease.

So, tonight I installed Chyrp on my development server, and started to play around. The templating language (Twig) is confusing at the moment, but is starting to become clearer. The biggest hurdle at this stage is that there is no definitive list of what Twig tags there are and how they are to be used. I am currently hacking into the default theme and trying to get it to work the way I want it to.

I would say that I am about a week away from being completely comfortable saying that I could design a blog using Chyrp, but it definitely looks like it might be a great platform.
